What to expect from a session

What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?

Massage or bodywork can help release chronic muscle tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical stress, promote faster healing of injured muscles, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. It also feels good to have.

What are some common jobs that may need help from a massage?

You may work at a desk, answering phone or on a computer all day long. This can be causing problems to your upper back, shoulders, neck, arms, even your hands.

How about you if you stand for long periods of times or your work requires for you to lean over some awkward positions for periods of time? This can be problems to your back, legs, and feet.

How about if you work out lot or into weight lifting, maybe your work for construction and do physical work.

We all need a massage once a while to help get relaxed and tuned back up from our ways of living.

Where will my massage or bodywork session take place?

Your massage/bodywork session will take place in a room either from your own home or from a quiet office.Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lay on a table specially designed for your comfort.

Who will perform the massage/bodywork?

I will be providing you with the massage , often in a variety of massage/bodywork techniques.

How long will the session last?

An average full-body massage or bodywork session lasts about one hour. A half-hour appointment only allows time for a partial massage, such as neck and shoulders or legs and feet. A one- or two-hour session provides optimal relaxation, such a deep tissue work around areas that need it the most.Be sure to allow for relaxation time before and after your session. Sometimes taking a bath before a session will help calm your muscle.

Must I be completely undressed?

Most massage/bodywork techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed. However, you may decide what amount of clothing you prefer to wear for your own comfort. Please understand when using oils and lotions it may stain clothing of types. If you would like to keep clothing on, i can work around it.The most important thing is to be comfortable.

What about my jewelry?

You will need to remove all jewelry to have more of a complete relaxing massage. This includes: Watches, earring, rings, necklaces, bracelets, toe rings.

Will the therapist be present when I undress?

I will leave the room while you undress, relax onto the table, and cover yourself with a clean sheet. Blankets are provided for extra warmth.

Will I be covered during the session?

You will be properly draped at all times so that you remain warm and comfortable..Only the body parts being worked on will be uncovered, everything else will be draped/covered.

What part of my body will be massaged?

I will discuss the desired outcome of your session. You will determine which parts of your body require massage. A typical full-body session will include work on your head, face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, back, hips, legs and feet. Be assured: You will not be touched on or near your genitals or breasts.Your Buttocks/Gluts is also an option.

Will oil be used?

A light oil or lotion may be used to aid in a session and avoid excessive friction to your skin. The products your therapist may use will hydrate your skin and be readily absorbed. If you prefer some lotions/oils over others, please let me know to accommodate.

What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?

Make yourself comfortable. I will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax. Others like to talk during their session. The choice is yours. Note: Always feel free to ask questions about massage and bodywork in general or about the particular techniques you are receiving.

What will the massage/bodywork feel like?

It depends on the techniques used. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad flowing strokes, which will help to calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscle tension. Please alert myself immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage/bodywork is most effective when your body is not resisting. For an example, if i am massaging your back and i come to a very sore spot that makes you tighten up your muscles, this is common. When you flex your muscles or hold tight onto something ,the massage will not feel the same.Just let me know.

How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains caused by tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of calmness, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness and greater productivity. Some people may experience some muscular tenderness after a session, particularly if the muscles are not used to massage or if deeper tissue work is done. Please do not be alarmed if this does happen. It is how the muscles react from not being massaged in a long time, or ever if this is your first.

Are there different kinds of massage and bodywork?

There are many types of massage and bodywork, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, application of pressure to specific points, etc.

Is it okay to get a massage if I am not feeling well?

If you have a fever, severe cold, the flu or anything else potentially contagious, you should not have a massage. If you are ill, please call as soon as possible to cancel your appointment. Receiving a massage when you have these symptoms may make things worse. Please be honest when filling out your form or returning back for a another visit.

Are there any medical conditions that make massage or bodywork inadvisable?

Please tell your therapist about any health concerns you have or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor’s care, obtain a written recommendation for massage/bodywork prior to your session. You may also click on the links - Contraindications - to get an idea of what is not acceptable for a massage.
